Project Overview: Textile waste is an increasing problem in the world today. It's one big cause for landfills and polution. NYC residents produce 12,000 tons of waste including textiles waste every day. Our design team initiated the mobile app, Simple Cycle, to promote textile recycling through a service that helps and encourages users to recycle their unreusable clothing and home linens.
Problem Statement: While many New Yorkers have little problem donating their reusable garments, people are unmotivated and lack knowledge about how to recycle non-donatable garments and home linens. How might we provide transparency and encouragement for users to recycle these garment and home-linen.

User Journey Map
We interviewed nine users and created persona and user journey map based on the interview result. By studying users' journey making donation, we discovered painpoints and the opportunity of our App - it is at the spot when a user wants to do good to reduce waste in the world but unsure how to do it with the beat-up garment and damaged linen.

Usability Testing
The purpose of this usability research study is to evaluate the learnability and easiness of using the app, efficiency of completing tasks, memorability of navigating, number of errors made, and the satisfaction of using the app.
Usability Testing Methodology
The design team conducted three rounds of usability testing with four participants each round. Participants were given three tasks in round one and five tasks in round two and three. Every testing was facilitated and observed by a team member.
We improved our design after each round of Usability Testing. (Below charts are parts of the usability testing report)
Next Step
We plan to implement the following in the next stage of our app, and to further promote textile recycling for a cleaner world of ours.
. Add and test a “Reminder” feature that remind users to bring out the bag before they leave home in the morning.
. Tailor the rewards program based on the options that re most popular.
. Expanding to more cities in the Northeast.
. Add recycle bags to Whole Foods ( as an Amazon company) locations throughout NYC.
